Join us we travel the Gulf Coast from the western parts of Louisiana to the southernmost part of Florida on this 10 day adventure filled tour. On Day One we begin the tour traveling east through Louisiana, Mississippi and into Alabama and through the Mobile tunnel for a waterside lunch overlooking Mobile Bay. Afterwards, we cross back through the tunnel to the National Maritime Museum, this museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to the rich history and traditions of the Gulf of America. The museum consists of over 80 immersive exhibits and interactives. During your visit you can pilot a cargo ship up the Mobile River; dive beneath the surface to explore historic shipwrecks; and step inside a ship’s cargo container. And while you’re here, don’t forget to step out onto one of our balconies to see the Port of Mobile in action!. With today being our first and long day we relax with the Drury Kickback reception to prepare for the next day. (D1: B, L,KB)
Our second day we continue east across the Florida Panhandle towards the city Tallahassee to make a stop at the Tallahassee Auto Museum. Covering over 100,000 sq ft the museum consists of over 160 automobiles spanning over 100 years with all types of automobiles making for another unique stop. Tying in today’s visit to the car museum we’ll have a unique dining experience. (D2: B, L, D)
With Day Three being Sunday we depart promptly in time to make it towards Tampa to attend morning mass at one of Tampa’s most beautiful churches. From the grandeur of the morning’s church this afternoon we visit Ca’ d Zan the home John & Mabel Ringling this 36,000 sq ft winter home was designed to impress. Walk through this opulent home an all its furnishings, when done walk over to the Ringling Circus museum to relive childhood memories through a collection of everything to from “The Greatest Show on Earth” . Resting up tonight we’ll take advantage of the Drury Kickback Reception (D3: B, L, KB)
Continuing our southward trek through the Florida everglades on Day Four we make a morning stop to something we are familiar with, marshes and alligators before trading those in for sandy white shores and crystal blue waters of the Florida Keys. After our morning break we make the cross from the mainland U.S. to begin the journey of crossing bridge after bridge connecting all the Florida Keys. From the mainland of to Key West we’ll cross 42 bridges which connect the 43 major inhabited islands. I’ve been working with the staff of one of the Florida Keys most well known restaurants for a fun lunch and an official welcome to the Key Lunch. After lunch we continue down the Jimmy Buffet Parkway to our home for the next two nights at one of centrally located resorts. Unpack and get settled before dinner nearby. (D4: B, L, D)
Day Five is the highlight for most on the tour as we make the forty plus mile journey which will take about an hour and half to the colorful vibrant city of Key West. For those who have never been it is definitely a city of its own identity. This city is busy with vacationers of all ages and from everywhere, whether driving in, flying in or arriving by one of the many cruise ships docking in the port it can be bustling at times and you’ll never know who’ll you’ll see. To get a better understanding not only of the layout of this little city but also its rich history we take in a guided trolley tour. After the tour you’ll have the rest of the afternoon on your own to grab a bite at one of the many restaurants or food carts, go shopping, tour one of the area museums or just sit and people watch. Usually the weather its perfect this time of the year so later in the afternoon we board the motorcoach and head back towards Marathon and stop for dinner before getting to the hotel. If we’re lucky we can catch a beautiful coastal sunset. (D5: B, D)
Since this is a Coastal Getaway Tour Day Six we slow it down with a late morning giving time to relax and maybe enjoy the sunrise above the water before boarding the bus for a short drive over to the to the Florida Dolphin Research Center. Beginning in 1984 this rehabilitation and research center has helped not only many dolphins, but also whales, sea lions and currently Florida manatees. Through it’s rehabilitation valuable research has also been done to better assists in preservation and protection. We return to the hotel for a group lunch then spend the afternoon relaxing at the property for some or others may want to try a little shopping before our group dinner. (D6: B, L, D)
On morning Seven we bid farewell to the Keys traveling back towards the mainland but since we’re so far south we might as well make a visit to Miami. You’ll get oA our traditional motorcoach and aboard an open air bus for a guided driving tour. Just as Mobile, AL and Key West this coastal city is also busy with the cruise ships visiting the port of Miami of which roughly 60-70 cruise ships call this port home with as many as 10 cruise ships departing each day. Besides the bustling cruise industry, this southern Florida city also a very rich history contributing the settling of the Americas (D7: B. L, KB)
It’s already Day Eight of ten but we still have a few things left to see so our morning visit will be to the Eddison and Ford Estate. While here you can tour the various buildings displaying inventions and ideas. You can also visit the home and see how time here was meant for relaxing but actually became another area of inspiration. This evening we continue making miles north reaching the city returning back to Gainesville. (D8: B, L, KB)
Day Nine will be travel day with the last seven days in Florida we cross back into Alabama this afternoon for our last night’s stay in Mobile where we spent our first night. Before arriving to the Hotel we’ll attend mass at the historic Mobile Cathedral (D9: B, L, KB)
