October’s day tour will take us south to Houma to not only visit with some of our fellow travelers of the area but also “explore” a little bit of the what the area has to offer.

We begin the day departing from Rayne making our first stop at Explore Houma which is the Welcome Center for the area. Located right of of Hwy 90 it’s not hard to miss with the world’s largest Shrimp Boots out front, inside you can pickup information on all that the area has to offer.

With so many fellow travel family members living in the Houma area next we gather for lunch at a fun local restaurant. We do have a reservation with no preset menu but anyone wanting to join the group for lunch must register and pay ahead of tour date. After enjoying a good meal and conversation we set our destination for even further south to Chauvin, LA. Here we will visit the Faith, Family & Shrimp Company for an in-depth explanation of their shrimp processing facility.

Making our round we make the drive over to the Chauvin Sculpture Garden. This outdoor garden features over 100 life sized concrete sculptures including a 45 ft. lighthouse as the centerpiece of the garden. With no formal artistic training local artist Kenny Hill built the sculptures depicting the emotional narrative of faith, salvation and personal torment using simple tools such as spoons and forks. Afterwards we set out for our return home.
