Southwest Louisiana Style!
Did you know this part of Louisiana celebrates 2 types of Mardi Gras. While our larger
neighboring cities such as Lafayette and Lake Charles showcase the style many are
familiar with having marching bands and large colorful parade floats filled with costumed riders tossing doubloons and beads there is also another type here.
Our other Mardi Gras known as “Courir de Mardi Gras” is the traditional country Mardi Gras where costumed Mardi Gras runners travel throughout the
countryside on horseback and wagons going from farm to farm collecting
goods for a community gumbo later that evening. At some farms the "runners" must
dance for the goods while other farms toss a Live Chicken into the air and the runners must catch it if they want to leave with it, definitely a sight to see.
Even though Mardi Gras is usually a short season once a year. We offer a Mardi Gras
Workshop explaining the types of Mardi Gras through Film, Photos and Personal
Stories complete with live Musicians to play the traditional “Couir de Mardi Gras Song”. Guest can even dress in costume to play our game of “Dance with a Chicken”. After all
the fun and games we finish with Mardi Gras King Cake and coffee. There is also
the option of each guest making their own Traditional Mardi Gras Mask or Capuchon
Hat or Make the whole set, then take a ride aboard a Mardi Gras Float
If more Mardi Gras is what you are interested in we can even arrange a tour
of the largest collection of City Krewe Mardi Gras costumes. This is an
extravagant display of satin, silks, rhinestones and lots of sequins.
If planning a trip during the Mardi Gras Season
We can plan an exciting week filled with festivities.
